New Media Player

I finally replaced the aging, Flash-based media player we've been using here with a nicer HTML5 one. The whole tedious process reminded me that the Sun Machine site is due for some massive overhaul. I'm going to start on that right away, so keep an eye out for a new design in the next few weeks!

We Return!

Hey, look at that, the site returns after being off-line for a few weeks.  I'd like to thank Larry Bremer, our wonderful web-host, for getting us back on-line after what sounded like a pretty horrific server crash.

More news to come soon, promise!

Cleaning Up

Wow, leave a site alone for six months, and it certainly does get infested with the spammers!

Anyway, I'm getting around to doing some clean-up here at sunmachine.coop, and figured I'd write a short post while I'm at it.

As you can tell, we've been hibernating for about six months or so, but we're still here.  Winter is coming, and while that means the flowers and grass and happy feelings are going to be crushed by snow, it will also be the time of year when the creative arts start to come alive.  I mean, what else do you do in the Midwest once the cold has descended?

Andy Juhl's next album is nearing completion at a suprisingly quick pace, so that's the main thing you'll be hearing about in the upcoming months.  Andy has also managed to sire a second child during this time, so congratulations to him!

That's all for now.  Hopefully we can get some writing up on the site soon, and make it a little less boring around here.

Ray LaMontagne: Songwriting Without Boundaries

in

As “singer-songwriters” go, it is difficult not to immediately think of the greats (i.e. Woody Guthrie, Bob Dylan, Neil Young, Bruce Cockburn, Pete Seeger, Ramblin’ Jack Elliot, etc.) and the term itself has slightly morphed into a label musical artists steer away from in order to gain more respect or uniqueness.  To me there is actually a strong sense of brotherhood or unification towards a historical culture when one can dub oneself as such – if that is truly the nature of their work and the realistic substance a writer connects to in the most basic form of lyrical creation.

"Crazy" is a term of endearment.

Roses are red.

Violets are blue.

I’m schizophrenic.

And so am I!

POP QUIZ!  What’s wrong with that poem?

Answer:  Everything.
