Andy Juhl is not just a talented singer-songwriter; he is also an exceptional guitar player. His interesting compositions and fine musicianship are both on display on his third album, River Light, released in 2010. Andy has returned to his Iowa prairie home to record these wonderful folk/rock songs. His organic approach to recording combined with the natural setting gives this album a sound quality that is very intimate and pure. These songs contain a wide range of themes. "Kansas Turnpike" tells the tale of someone who is always on the road, while "Almost At Home" is about finally returning home. Pacifists are sure to love the ironic lyrics to "We Forgot About Peace and Love." In "Garden Path," the singer is finally starting to think for himself after years of being told what to believe. "Live On" and "River Light" contain some wonderful imagery while the music shows Andy's slightly unconventional yet very pleasing songwriting. Andy showcases his guitar work on the rocking jams of "Conscientious Objector" and "Front Door Jamb" along with the acoustic instrumental "Beneath the Apple Tree." Each song takes you to a different place, which will give listeners a very enjoyable experience.
Andy received an honorable mention in the 16th Annual Billboard World Song Contest for his song "We Belong to the Earth." That song also earned him an honorable mention by the Independent Singer-Songwriter Association in their 2008 songwriting contest.
Andy's music has also attracted the attention of several music supervisors. "The Wind and the Buffalo" and "We Belong to the Earth" are being used in episodes of Roadtrip Nation which is currently airing on PBS. The music supervisors of the following shows have also licensed Andy's music to be used in their shows: MTV's The Hills, Road Rules, and The Real World; Lifetime's America's Psychic Challenge; and the Oxygen Network's Bad Girls Club.
Andy has begun work on setting up a new record label called Sun Machine. It is based on the co-op business model with the idea of equal and collective ownership among its members and musicians.
